Key Takeaways

No one comes to NAMAD just for the sessions. They come for the conversations that happen between them. After a week at the 46th Annual NAMAD Conference in Miami Beach, a few themes followed me home:

  • Relationships still drive the automotive industry.
  • Dealers want practical ways to use AI, not AI for AI’s sake.
  • The service drive remains one of the biggest growth opportunities in retail automotive.
  • Access (whether to capital, data, opportunities, or mentorship) continues to shape dealer success.

What stands out most about NAMAD isn’t the venue, the speakers, or even the agenda. It’s the culture. Attendees who started the week as strangers are swapping ideas by day two. People who met briefly years ago are picking up conversations like no time has passed.

For an industry built on relationships, that’s not a small thing… it’s the whole point.

By the end of NAMAD’s 2026 conference, this year’s theme, Driving Strategic Growth Through Strategic Alignment, felt less like a conference theme and more like a working plan.

Moments That Stuck with Me

The WOCAN Luncheon

The Women of Color Automotive Network (WOCAN) hosted its fifth annual luncheon during the conference, with Vivian Tu serving as keynote speaker. She spoke about money, confidence, and financial literacy. I watched a room full of women in automotive celebrate and encourage one another while having honest conversations about growth, opportunity, and self-worth.

Krystal Roberts on Legacy and Leadership

Krystal Roberts brought one of the week’s most personal conversations during the From Legacy to Leadership Fireside Chat. She shared what it means to carry forward a family legacy while building a leadership style that is uniquely her own.

Stories like hers are a reminder that every dealership has a history behind it. Many have generations behind them. And every generation faces the same challenge: how do you honor what’s been built while preparing for what’s next?

Richard Montañez on Reinvention

Richard Montañez delivered the kind of keynote that stays with you long after the conference ends. His story is remarkable, but what made the session memorable was the humility behind it. The lesson wasn’t about success… it was about persistence and a willingness to keep moving when circumstances change. Any dealer who has navigated the last several years understands what that looks like.

The Diversity Volume Leadership Awards

Presented by Marc Bland of Mobility Global, automotiveMastermind’s parent company, the Diversity Volume Leadership Awards recognize manufacturers that have earned meaningful traction with Black, Asian American, and Hispanic American car buyers.

Watching brands like Ford, GM, Nissan, and Toyota receive recognition in a room that understood what it took to get there hit differently. People weren’t applauding because they were supposed to. They were genuinely happy for one another.

DJ Jazzy Jeff Closed Out the Week

And yes, after four days of strategic alignment, workshops, economics discussions, and AI conversations, we ended the week at LIV Nightclub with DJ Jazzy Jeff. Because sometimes relationship-building looks like a networking breakfast… and other times it looks like a dance floor.

What Dealers Are Focused on Right Now

One theme kept surfacing at NAMAD: how do dealers turn information into action? That’s where many of today’s biggest opportunities live.

The Service Drive Is Still One of the Biggest Growth Opportunities

A topic we heard repeatedly throughout the week was maximizing existing customer relationships. That’s one reason the service drive continues to matter so much.

Every day, dealerships interact with customers who already trust them, already have a relationship with them, and may be closer to their next vehicle purchase than anyone realizes.

Better Decisions Start with Better Visibility

For dealership teams, alignment often comes down to knowing where to focus next.

That’s the idea behind automotiveMastermind’s Command Center: helping dealerships move from information overload to prioritized action.

Practical AI is Key to Dealership Success

Nearly every AI discussion eventually landed in the same place: how do we make AI useful? Dealers aren’t looking for more complexity. They’re looking for more confidence.

Looking Ahead

NAMAD week always leaves me with more than I arrived with. But the biggest takeaway isn’t what happens during the conference… it’s what happens afterward.

NAMAD has spent nearly five decades creating access. Access to capital, to data, to each other, to a network that keeps pushing for more minority dealers to walk through the door and stay there.

That’s the part worth supporting. I’m already looking forward to next year.
